Brembo was founded in 1961 in Paladina, near Bergamo, by Emilio Bombassei, his sons Sergio and Alberto Bombassei and his brother-in-law, Italo Breda. The company started out as a small family-run mechanical workshop; but it was an unexpected opportunity that would change its story. At the time brake discs were still uncommon, and the few in use were bought in UK. In 1964 a truck transporting brake discs for Alfa Romeo from UK overturned, compromising delivery. Brembo was tasked with repairing the damaged discs, but the company realized it could also produce them and proposed the idea to Alfa Romeo, which accepted. This marked the beginning of Brembo’s incredible adventure. Since then, the company quickly began producing Italy’s first brake discs for the aftermarket. The product portfolio soon expanded to include more braking system components, and Brembo began to gain global recognition for its expertise and quality.
